WILD EATABLE PLANTS, Nettles, mustard, dock and wild onion

How to cook stinging nettles
http://shermshappenins.blogspot.com/2012/03/how-to-cook-wild-herbs-stinging-nettles.html
My Mother was the first to teach me how to eat wild mustard greens. The way she made them was southern style and was so good. We never had to buy spinach, she knew the plants no matter where we lived. Oregon theirs a lot growing wild. Don't collect by traffic areas as they will have lead in the plants

ONE, DO NOT COLLECT ROOTS OF ANY WILD PLANT. THEY ARE MORE POWERFUL AND HAVE STRONGEST MEDICAL PROPERTIES.TWO, IF EVERYONE DID THIS, IT WOULD RAPE, PLUNGING THE LAND OF WILD HERBS. I AM FIGHTING THE HERBAL CO. TO STOP THIS PRACTICE, UNLESS THEY LEAVE THE SPOT WHERE THEY'VE COLLECTED WITH ANOTHER HERB SEED, ROOT IN ITS PLACE. THINK OF OTHERS.

Nettle root reduces the binding of testosterone to sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG), resulting in lower levels of inactive “bound” testosterone and higher levels of active “free” testosterone .

INTERACTIONS:

Antidiabetic medicines: There is some evidence that nettle root can decrease blood sugar levels. Use with caution if you are on blood glucose lowering medications.
Antihypertensives: There is some evidence that nettle root can decrease blood pressure. Use with caution if you are on blood pressure lowering medications.
PHARMACOLOGICAL ACTION:
Nettle root extract is believed to work by numerous mechanisms to reduce benign prostatic hyperplasia (BHP). Nettle root extract has been shown to inhibit the binding of SHBG to the prostate cell membrane. In addition to inhibiting SHBG binding, at least six constituents of Nettle root inhibit aromatase, reducing the conversion of androgen's to estrogen's. Nettle root has also been demonstrated to reduce the proliferation of BPH-tissue. Nettle root also has anti-inflammatory effects by reducing leukotriene and prostaglandin synthesis.
IINDICATIONS:
Nettle root has 5-alpha reductase enzyme blocking effects, and is therefore useful for problems associated with an enlarged prostate, such as frequent or difficult urination. Nettle root also binds to sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG), thereby increasing levels of free testosterone. Free testosterone is essential for sexual arousal, heart health, immune function and maintenance of lean muscle mass. Nettle root also blocks aromatase enzymes, thereby reducing the conversion of testosterone into cancer forming estrogen's in men.
CNS depressants: There is evidence that nettle root extract might have CNS depressant activity and may potentate the effects of antidepressants.
Lithium: Nettle root is thought to have diuretic effects and might reduce excretion of lithium and this may lead to increased levels of lithium.
Warfarin: There is some concern that nettle root may decrease the anticoagulant effects of medicines such as warfarin. Dose adjustments of anti-coagulants may be required.
We need advise of how to be more practiable in our landscaping. This is a good book. The Incredible Edible Landscape. Maybe this speaks to you.
My son Shan is in horticulture and conservation. For Christmas I have him a book on wild editable plants which was one of my treasures. He's the smartest man I know on the subject.
