All 'soups in a can" are getting into new adverting act. ("No MSG" )If its on any product label this means they know it shouldn't be there in the first place! Thinnnk it throooooh!
Are you aware of the most popular can soup such as the most popular company such as CAMPBELL’S has mono sodium glutamate (MSG) (OFTEN DISGUISED BY MANY OTHER NAMES) and has even yeast hidden under "spices." They are allowed to hide anything? Therefore, canned product may not be as healthy as consumers might think. Because of the economy, more folks are eating less out and buying quick faster foods to eat or frozen to take home. Soup sells are going up. At what price to the family’s health are we willing to pay for such conveniences. True we get MSG in restaurants, fast foods, drive in 's etc. However, at home, we should gain more control for health sake to have fewer doctors visits. MSG increases the appetite and does PERMANENT damage to the brain and memory. Check the Internet under "MSG," and find other reported problems, yet, not removed from the market. Why?
The other ingredient needed to be address is fiber. (By the way, you can add other ingredients to canned soups stretching the servings by adding in more vegetable or fibrous foods.) Campbell’s cream of mushroom soup has 1-2 grams of fiber, compared to other brands that do not even have a full gram. What does that mean? It means there are not enough vegetables in the can that is mostly starch and white flour. I would rather have more mushrooms thus more fiber in my soups. So they get an A here. Just get rid of the MSG before buying their other soups.

Recipe: Any white sauce with a sauteed vegetable will make any CREAM OF___SOUP AND QUICKER THAN YOU THINK. Keep it simple. If you sautéed a bit of chopped onions and/or celery (if you like these vegetables), to a cup of chopped mushrooms with 3-4 tbls. butter, (margarine or oil). Then add, vegetables and add about ¼ cup of flour and cook until golden. Then add enough milk to thicken, you’ll have a quick cream of mushroom soup better than Campbell’s, and it will not require that much more time.
Just pepper and salt to taste, not 870 mg. as in Campbell’s Cream of Mushroom Soup. If you want it just plan, like there’s, just do the chiooed mushrooms and not the other vegetables.
After it’s cool down, freeze any left over to use in another recipe later.
You can make any vegetable “cream of soup” this way, by choosing the main vegetable you desire. It's sautéed vegetables with a white sauce the same as Campbell’s with no preservatives. (Celery=cream of celery etc.) If you have a hand blender at the end of the cooking, blend it as smooth as desired. (If you don't want to use flour, use 2 tbls corn starch disolved in the mil.)

A POST NOTES: Just to show you how consumers buying can change these mighty food giants. Their "SELECT HARVEST" brand that Campbell's has come out with has no MSG or artificial flavors and is very tasty. I dislike their other "chicken and noodle" the texture is too fine and too many. But the Chicken with Egg Noodles, which should be called, Egg Noodles with bits of chicken has plenty of flavor without the MSG. See what we can do? More folks stopping the "FAST FOODS." buying and eating out. They are too fattening and not healthy and going to canned soups, especially the singles and elderly. Good for you Campbell's for leading out in this new change in eating. CONGRATULATIONS AND KEEP your vote (money buying) GOING...after all your family's has to eat healthy too.
But not all "Selective Harvests" are the same. The stew soup is full of MGS i.e.
Remember if they advertise on the label, "No MSG" corn syrup, chemical, hormones i.e. it all means they know it shouldn't be there in the first place.
