Immune System, Flues, HIV, TB, Women Issues

Usnea (Oak moss) a powerful plants is inconspicuous gray -green fuzzy clup covering many trees is one of the gentlest strongest immune tonics in the herb world. It's a combination of algae and fungus growing together known as Man's beard. It grows well in moist areas like the Pacific Northwest called tufts up to a foot long. After a wind storm is the best time to gather them rather than going up a tall tree. They also grow on aged apple trees where it's easier to
reach. This is a good herb to make herbal medications and its free to those who go on their herbal walks for herb. This is a good one to add to your walk. I love Iris Moss...a great healer.
Usnea is another immune system tonic that can be used in acute cases, and for long term immune enhancement or general prevention. No side effect and safe for children and animals.
This can replace Echinacea, or Iris Moss, etc in making formulas. It has antibiotic properties
specifically to the respiratory and urinary system. It's used to heal respiratory, sinus infections, bronchitis, pneumonia, tuberculosis, strep throat, colds, flues, urinary tract, kidney's or bladder infections. It has been used for women with yeast infections, trichonomosas bacteria (parasite.)Usnea is beneficial for women with bacterial vaginosis, and chlamydia. It can help with
chronic fatigue, HIV, herpes, and other chronic conditions related with depressed immunity.
It's not a good plant for making tea. Oil extract are better for sauve/balms and a good way to use it with children and animal in mouthwashes, gargles, lozenges for inflammation's of the oral mucus membranes (head area.)
It's best to use a alcohol extract (tincture). Pack the herb in a jar (with lid) with Usnea (fresher the better,) and 100 proof vodka, and totally cover the plant. This plant has very little water in it so the alcohol works better than water decoctions, but not impossible to use apple cider vinegar. Be sure to label and date the contents and cover close the lid. Let it sit for 6 weeks and shake it once in a while, but not necessary. After 6 weeks strain off the liquid and transfer into a dark dropper bottle. The color of the herb will change to a brownish-orange. This is basically how the health food stores make extract!
This powerful plant is great to have about in the season of cold's and flues, or rebuilding the immune system for that extra boost.
